RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. It is a simple way for Internet users to read summaries of frequently changing Web content, such as a news site or a blog. Users can subscribe to RSS feeds through news readers, like MyYahoo! and Google Reader.
RSS feeds provide an easy mechanism for organizations to collect and distribute information. An organization can embed an RSS feed onto its site to “pull” relevant information, providing visitors with dynamic content. The organization can also produce daily content—press releases, blogs, podcasts--and “push” that material through to subscribers. RSS feeds can increase the visibility of an organization’s mission and work. Example: a foundation might set up an RSS feed to disseminate news, information and reports in areas that the foundation supports.
